AMAZON SERVED BY SGPC NOTICE FOR SELLING SACRED SIKHS TEXT ONLINE

E-commerce giant Amazon, an online store has been served a legal notice from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) yesterday for selling

of holy books Guru Granth Sahib and Gutka Sahib.

PTI reported that SGPC chief secretary Harjinder Singh Dhami about the incident said that the Sikh community has huge respect and devotion for Gurbani there is “outrage” among them over the sale online of the Gutka Sahib, a collection of sacred verses.

Harjinder Singh said that Amazon practice went against the principles of Sikhism.

He even asked Amazon to immediately remove the two holy books from its website and also warned of further legal action if the company failed to do so.

Previously Amazon was accused of hurting religious sentiments through its political satire “Tandav”. An FIR was lodged in the month of January against the creators of the web series for hurting ‘Hindu sentiments’. The web series portrays Hindu deity Shiva in “a poor light” as the actor playing the role used foul language.
