Last Updated on January 17, 2024 by News Desk
Background:- The One Hundred and Sixth Amendment Act, 2023 was signed into law in September by the President of India, by the act cannot be implemented until a delimitation exercise has been carried out after the next census.
Issue:- A PIL was filed by Congress Leader Jaya Thakur, who claimed that a constitutional amendment that has been passed once with full support in a special session cannot be withheld.
Analysis:- The Apex court was currently hearing the PIL which was filed by the National Federation of Indian Women, which had sought for the reintroduction of women’s reservation bill.
While asserting the refusal to issue a notice in Thakur’s petition, the SC agreed to hear the same along with the plea which was filed by the NFW in 2021. Last week a writ petition was also directed which sought the implementation of the 33 percent of quota for women lawmakers. To avoid the multiplicity of litigation all of them will be heard together.
Conclusion:– The hearing for the day was adjourned as no counsel appeared on behalf of the official respondents, deferring the proceedings to the next month.
