A plea was filed before the Delhi High Court, whereby the upcoming student union elections were challenged.

The matter was heard by Justice Sachin Datta, who had ordered the counsel of the JNU to seek instructions on the issue.

The elections of JNUSU are supposed to be held after four years. The voting has been scheduled on 22nd March and the result declaration will be on 24th March.

Sakshi is a student in a BA(Persian) course at the School of Language, literature, and Culture.

It has been argued by her in the plea that the elections are being conducted in violation of the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee.

It has been mentioned in the plea that as per the Lyngdoh committee, it has been suggested that the elections must be held within 6 -8 weeks of the beginning of the academic session but this time elections are being held at the end of the academic session.

It had also challenged the notification, that was issued on 30th January 2024, whereby the students were invited for the meeting to conduct elections.

It further also challenged the notification of 6th March 2024 whereby the list of the EC members as well as the chairperson of the election committee of the JNUSU elections, was released.

As per the plea, the “democratic integrity of the institution has been compromised by the undue influence of certain political entities espousing certain ideologies”

The court will hear the case again on 15th March.
