Manipur people lacking legal assistance, approaches Supreme Court

According to Senior Attorney Anand Grover, members of a group in Manipur are compelled to get relief from the Supreme Court since their lawyers are too terrified to stand up for them. Grover was defending two petitions, one from an activist and the other from a former colonel of the Indian Army. After his house and office were vandalised, the first petition, titled “Anglo-Kuki War 1917–1919: Triumph in Defeat,” was brought against him.
Concerning allegations that attorneys are under assault because they are representing particular parties, the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, has been questioned. Grover has been requested to submit an affidavit noting that it is challenging for him to locate a counsel who would represent him in a process under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 before the High Court. No coercive actions against the petitioner may be taken until the following date of listing, according to the court’s order providing interim protection.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is very concerned by allegations that Manipur attorney S. Chittaranjan’s house and office were ransacked because he was defending Kuki professor Kham Khan Suan Hausing in a criminal case. The SCBA has expressed its support for the attorney whose home was assaulted by a hysterical crowd.
