Kerala High Court Upholds Sabarimala Temple’s Age Restriction, Dismisses 10-Year-Old Girl’s Plea for Entry

The Kerala High Court dismissed a 10-year-old girl’s plea for entry to Sabarimala temple for pilgrimage. The girl argued that she has not yet reached puberty and should be allowed to attend Mandalapooja and Makaravilakku rituals without considering the age limit.
Girl requested the court to direct the Travancore Devaswom Board to permit her entry during the monthly pooja time as the mandalam season is over.
The girl’s intention was to visit Sabarimala before turning ten, but due to COVID restrictions, financial constraints, and her father’s ill health, the pilgrimage was postponed.
The Travancore Devaswom Board clarified that women aged between 10 and 50 are not allowed to visit the temple premises, which the court refused to overrule.
