Last Updated on September 21, 2023 by News Desk

The Rajya Sabha considered on 21st September 2023, the 128th amendment to the constitution bill of 2023.

The bill seeks to provide one-third or 33 percent reservation for the women in Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies.

On 20th September the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with the support of most of the members present and voting.

The final ratio of the same was 454:2.

The women reservation bill or the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ therefore passed with a majority in the Lok Sabha.

Since the passing of the bill, its immediate implementation has been claimed by many members, starting with the elections that are due to be held in 2024.

Though it has been said that there has to be work of census and delimitation that has to be done as a result the immediate implementation of the bill would be difficult.

This is the seventh attempt that has been made since 1996 to get this bill passed.
