The Supreme Court has ordered that the keys to a mosque in Erandol Taluka, Jalgaon, will remain with the municipal council. The court disposed of an appeal by the Jumma Masjid Trust Committee against the Bombay High Court’s order to return the keys by April 13.

The municipal council will depute an official to open the gate before namaz and until all namaz are performed. The masjid compound will be under the control of the Wakf board or the petitioner until further orders are issued.

The order came against a complaint filed by the Hindu group Pandavwada Sangharsh Samiti (PSS), which claimed the mosque is a temple and accused the local Muslim community of encroachment.

This is an interim arrangement until the District Collector finally resolves the proceedings.
