Last Updated on March 13, 2024 by News Desk

The State Bank of India (SBI) chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara on Wednesday submitted the affidavit stating that it has furnished the electoral bond details to the Election Commission of India (ECI) as per the supreme court’s order.

SBI informed the court that a total number of 22,217 bonds were purchased during the period from April 1, 2019, to February 15, 2024, out of which, 22,030 electoral bonds were redeemed.

“In respectful compliance with the aforesaid directions, before the close of business hours on March 12, 2024, a record of this information was made available to the Election Commission of India (ECI) by hand delivering in digital form (password protected)”, the affidavit stated.

It further informed the court, “The date of purchase of each Electoral Bond, the name of the purchaser, and the denomination of the Electoral Bond purchased has been furnished. The date of encashment of the Electoral Bonds, the name of political parties who have received the contributions, and the denomination of the said bonds has also been furnished.”

Earlier, the five-judge bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, on March 11, rejected the SBI’s plea seeking the extension of time to furnish the electoral bond details to ECI. It also warned that non-compliance with orders would lead to contempt of court against SBI on the grounds of “willful disobedience”.

The chairman of SBI was directed to submit the compliance affidavit.
