SBI informs SC, electoral bonds details have been furnished to ECI

It has been informed by the SBI that it has submitted all the electoral bond details including the alphanumeric identification details, to the ECI.

Compliance was done to the order of apex court’s 18th March order, whereby it was stated by the SBI that all the necessary information had been furnished to the ECI.

The affidavit says that information, that is, the name of the purchaser, the denomination, the name of the party, the last four digits of the account number, and others.

The data is now to be uploaded on the website of the ECI.

The electoral bonds scheme allowed anonymous donations to political parties via bearer bonds from SBI, introduced through the Finance Act, of 2017.

After legal challenges, the Supreme Court quashed the scheme on February 15. SBI was directed to provide details of contributions from April 12, 2019.

Despite SBI’s request, the Court mandated disclosure of purchaser names, bond denominations, and redemption details on March 11. On March 18, SBI was instructed to reveal alphanumeric bond numbers.
