The Gujarat HC has directed the state government to conduct an inquiry into the municipal corporation workings, where due to lethargy accidents take place.
The court had taken a Suo moto cognizance out of a PIL that was field before it. The bench comprised Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Pranav Trivedi directed the principal secretary of the urban development and urban housing department to take stringent action as it is evident that the working of the municipal corporation has become aweigh.
It was felt that there was a need for an inquiry because of the recent unfortunate incident.
The court said that such incidents reveal that public places or places that have a large extent of footfall are unsafe for human lives because of the dereliction of duties.
The HC had also sought the inquiry report in a month along with the actions undertaken by the secretary.
