Notification for the appointment of CJ of Manipur will be done for the same: Centre to SC

Issue: – A contempt petition was filed by the advocate association of Bengaluru, whereby they sought a contempt action against the Union Ministry of Law and Justice for not adhering to the timeline for clearing the collegium proposals. It was listed along with the writ filed by the NGO Common Cause regarding the same issue.
Analysis: – Two weeks earlier concerns were expressed by the Supreme Court as there was a delay on the part of the government in the notification of the elevation of Delhi High Court’s Judge Siddharth Mridul to the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Responding to that the center has assured that the file has been cleared and the task of notification will be done very soon.
It was recorded by the bench today that it hopes that the file moves early as the appointment has been pending for a considerable time and that too for a sensitive state of now.
On the last occasion of the hearing, the objection was reiterated by the court as the apex court had already recommended Justice Mridul’s name in July.
Judgment – The bench said that the notification must be issued by the next date.
