In order to help Keralites employed in Gulf countries support their families, the Kerala High Court has advised the State Government to take up the matter of outrageous flying fares to and from Gulf countries with the Central Government. According to Judge Devan Ramachandran:

The state government had a responsibility by default to assist people in need. The court directed the state government to inform other defendants about the challenges that Keralites, particularly Malayalees, were facing because of the purportedly exorbitant price of plane tickets.

The court observed that despite the fact that workers in Gulf nations contribute to the economy, they are unable to travel because of the rapidly rising cost of tickets. The court further stated that since flight prices can become excessive, markets shouldn’t be used to set them.

The court suggested that the state government should have rules to help people working in Gulf countries travel at least once a year to meet their loved ones. The court urged the State Government to come forward and decide what to do. The matter has been posted for instructions from the Kerala government after ten days.
