The Jharkhand high court has scheduled a hearing for former chief minister Hemant Soren’s plea filed on February 5. Soren has challenged his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged land scam case.

The high court previously granted Soren five-day custody in connection with the case. Soren was sworn in as the new chief minister of Jharkhand on Friday. A special court in Ranchi granted Soren permission to participate in a trust vote on February 5.

Soren moved to the Supreme Court to challenge his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the land deal case, but the court declined to entertain his plea and directed him to approach the relevant high court.

Soren has challenged the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate on January 22, 2024, and January 25, 2024, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. He has alleged harassment by the ED and accused the agency of misusing its authority for political purposes.

The investigation pertains to the alleged forging of official records to acquire valuable land through fraudulent means.
