Electoral Bonds Case Hearing

The Supreme Court will be hearing the batch of petitions which were pertaining to the electoral bonds scheme
The constitution bench comprised CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra heard the matter.
The case pertains to the batch of petitions, which were challenging the amendments that were introduced by the Finance Act, which paved the way for the anonymous electoral bonds scheme.
The Finance Act introduced amendments to the Reserve Bank of India Act, Companies Act, Income Tax, representation of Peoples, and Foreign Contributions Regulations Act so that electoral bonds can be enabled.
The petitions were filed by the NGOs, Association for Democratic Reforms, political party communist party of India, challenging the scheme results in making political funding nontransparent as electoral bond donors are kept anonymous.
It was also contended that the scheme facilitated corruption and corruption and money laundering by donations through shell companies.
