Delhi High Court requests Sports Ministry response to Wrestling Federation of India’s appeal against suspension

Last Updated on April 11, 2024 by News Desk

On 9th April, the Delhi HC sought the Centre’s response to a plea filed by the Wrestling Federation of India, whereby the suspension was challenged.

The notice was issued by Justice Subramonium Prasad, to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for filing the reply to the petition within 4 weeks.

The Central government suspended the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) after Sanjay Singh won the elections, citing concerns over hasty decisions and rule violations. The Sports Ministry directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to manage WFI’s affairs.

The IOA dissolved the ad-hoc committee later. Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan argued that the suspension violated natural justice principles and the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011, as no prior notice was given.
