BCI to Allow Final-Year Law Students to Take AIBE Amid Supreme Court Hearing

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has informed the Supreme Court that it is drafting rules to allow final-year law students to take the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The decision was made during a hearing by the Supreme Court, where nine Delhi University law students filed a petition against the BCI’s recent notification barring them from taking the AIBE before graduation. The petitioners argued that the BCI’s decision contradicts a Constitutional bench judgment that allowed eligible students to take the AIBE. They sought quashing the BCI’s notification and a direction to allow the exam to be taken to avoid sacrificing their professional careers.
The AIBE exam is scheduled for November 24, 2024.
