The Association of Democratic Reforms moved to the SC whereby it sought contempt action to be taken against the SBI as it had failed to meet the deadline, which was settled for the disclosure of the details of all electoral bonds.

The bench which was led by CJI DY Chandrachudh agreed to the listing of the matter.

The constitution bench of the top court had unanimously quashed the electoral bond scheme and had given directions to the SBI for the submission of details of the political parties that have received their contribution through electoral bonds to the ECI.

The SBI was even directed to disclose details by 6th March 2024, which would be then published by the ECI on its website.

SBI had applied to the court where it has cited certain practical difficulties.

The ADR has alleged deliberate disobedience from SBI of the constitution bench judgment.

It is also alleged that the application made by the SBI has not disclosed even the progress of the direction.

The electoral bonds scheme allows the donors to buy bearer bonds from the SBI and send funds to the political parties.

It was introduced through the Finance Act of 2017.

Various petitions had been filed in the court challenging the scheme, whereby it was alleged that unchecked or illegal funding to the political parties could be done through the scheme.
