Supreme Court Rejects Plea for Virtual Campaigning by Arrested Politicians

Supreme Court dismissed a plea for arrested political leaders to campaign virtually during elections. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan refused to interfere with the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed the petition.

It was stated that plea was filed with mala fide intent and focused on one politician, Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier, The Delhi High Court dismissed the plea, stating that it would lead to criminals, including fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, registering themselves with political parties and canvassing.

It was reiterated that Courts do not make policy decisions and it is up to Parliament to decide on such issues.

An adventurous plea, as stated by the Court, was filed by law student Amarjeet Gupta.
