Plea for the formation of SITs to inquire the Electoral Bonds dismissed by SC
Last Updated on August 2, 2024 by News Desk
The SC dismissed the petitions that sought to set up a special investigation team for the investigation of the alleged instances of the quid pro quo arrangements between the corporate and political parties through electoral donations.
It was said by the court that it would be premature and inappropriate to order the investigation under the monitoring of a retired judge when the remedies that are already available have not been invoked.
The plea to direct the authorities for the recovery of the donations by the political parties and re-opening of income tax assessment were rejected by the court.
The bench comprised of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Parduwala and Justice Manoj Misra.
The court highlights that these assumptions require further inquiry and should be addressed through existing legal remedies before seeking court intervention. Forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is deemed unnecessary at this stage, as other statutory remedies are available.
