On Thursday, the High Court in Calcutta pulled out the Bengal government for not taking proactive steps to stop the use of contaminated IV fluids in state hospitals. Main judge T.S. Sivagnanam and justice Hiranmay Bhattachary have heard a request for an impartial probe into the alleged deaths of two women and a child due to contaminated IV fluid administered by pregnant mothers.
The state -General of the state said that only one woman died. “It is somewhat worrying to know that despite the order approved in December 2024, which ordered him to stop production, the medical department has not shown proactive steps to suspend the use of the drug.
It happened only on 14 January, ”said the main judge Sivagnanam in the order, “We do not understand why it took more than ten days to accept orders to withdraw existing shares,” the chief judge said. “All subsequent measures cannot bring back lost lives.”
The state that is a social state will pay the victims of reasonable compensation, even if it cannot bring back the lives of people who are lost. “We will order the Ministry of Health and family care to give a comprehensive report, including the list of patients to whom the drug has been given. The measures report must also be submitted by the Central Government. “Then the court will consider other instructions,” the main judge added.
