Buffalo And Bulbuli Bird Fights In Assam Are Completely Prohibited By The Gauhati High Court

Buffalo and Bulbuli bird fights are strictly prohibited in the State of Assam, according to a ruling delivered by the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday.
After hearing arguments from People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who claimed that the 2023 government notification permitting these fights violated the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960, Justice Devasis Baruah issued the order.
The Supreme Court’s ruling in Animal Welfare Board of India vs. A. Nagaraja (Jalikattu case) was also allegedly broken by allowing these fights to go.
After considering the petitioners’ arguments, the court declared the government notification to be invalid.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Section 3, addresses the obligatory responsibility of those in charge of animals. Animal rights are the exact opposite of a duty. The law will enforce those rights with legal consequence if they are breached.
It was also decided that Assam had not amended the Prevention of Cruelty Act in contrast to other States, but rather had chosen to overrule the Act, the 1972 Act, and the Nagaraja ruling, which was not permissible.
