Wife Seeks Financial Assistance From PM Cares Fund for Husband’s Lung Transplantation.

On August 10, 2021 Division bench comprising of Justice LN Rao & Justice Aniruddha Bose heard a plea filed by women seeking relief of rupees 1 crore for her husband’s Covid treatment from Government’s relief fund.  

In her plea she mentioned that she is in need of financial assistance for lungs transplantation of her husband who has been diagnosed with Covid. Further she mentioned all her savings are being exhausted in such treatment. However, the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that “we have already told that nothing can be done but we had we are still searching what can be done.” 

In the arguments presented by the wife in her plea she stated that before approaching the court she had been to office of PM but to her dismay her application for relief was denied by the staff & was asked that a recommendation letter from the MP of her constituency is a mandatory document for defraying medical expenses from PMNRF. 

Thus, plaintiff while refereeing to the case of Centre for Public Intrest litigation v. UOI, 2020 wherein it was held that it is primary objective to provide relief to affected citizen especially by the covid pandemic. 

Hence, while hearing both the parties of the case the Court adjourned the hearing and listed the case for next date that is 11 August,2021.
