Economic Offences having wider ramifications cannot be quashed: SC

Economic offenses have a different stand of footing than the other offences, given the fact that they have wider ramifications.
Therefore, the court refused to quash the corruption case even though the same was settled between the accused and the bank.
The bank had suffered a loss of approximately Rs. 6.13 Crores as the reason the court ruled that the settlement terms could not erase the offenses committed.
The bench was comprised of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Prasanna B. Varale.
The appeal was filed by the Directors of M/s Sun Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. and the employees of the said respondent No. 3.
It was argued by the respondents that the settlement cannot quash the criminal case as the matter concerns societal interest.
