The SC was hearing a petition that was filed by Yash Dodani and others that sought the enhancement of the accessibility of the visually impaired candidates in examinations that are conducted by the Bar Council of India.

The bench comprised of Justices Suryan Kant, Ujal Bhuyan and Dipankar Datta.

The petitioners sought the method of answering the questions through the computer rather than solely relying on a scribe.

Even previously, the SC had directed the BCI to implement measures to provide easy accessibility to visually impaired candidates.

It was pointed out by the respondents that steps mentioned in (i), (ii), and (iii) of the previous order had already been implemented.

The court clarified that the visually impaired candidates must be given an option to choose.

It also said that those who want the scribes may get it, but they should not be from the humanities or law background.
