Interim bail of Bilkis Bano Convicts denied

Supreme Court of India

Last Updated on July 22, 2024 by News Desk

On Friday, the SC rejected the interim bail request of Radheshyam Bhagwandas and Rajubhai Babulal, who were convicts in the Bilkis Bano Case.

They had sought a temporary release, amidst their new remission plea which is pending in the court.

In March they had approached the court arguing that the ruling convicting them had violated the order of the constitution bench. They requested that the matter concerning their remission, which was canceled by the Gujarat government, be referred to a larger bench.

It said that two SC benches are giving contradictory opinions.

In the plea, they have requested the center for the evaluate of the case of their early release and specify how and which of the prior judgment would be applicable in the state of contradiction.
