Plea To Tally All VVPAT Slips with the EVM Votes Rejected By The SC

On Friday, the SC rejected the petition whereby directions were sought to give directions to tally the VVPAT slips with the votes that have been cast through the EVMs.
The bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta also give their dissent on the issue of going back to the paper ballot voting method.
The court emphasized the need to nurture a culture of trust and collaboration to strengthen democracy.
However certain directions were given to the ECI:-
- Once the symbol loading process is done the loading units must be sealed and the same has to be then kept in the strong rooms for 45 days.
- The candidates shall be given the option that they may be present at he time of verification and the district election officer will be liable to certify the authenticity of the burnt memory.
- The burnt memory to be checked by the engineers.
The verdict was the outcome of three petitions. After compiling all the petitions when the matter was heard the judgement was reserved by the SC on 18th April.
