The New Delhi Bar Association has made a plea to judicial officers, urging them not to issue adverse orders for non-appearance of advocates and litigants on January 22. This specific date coincides with the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, where the deity Lord Ram will be formally enshrined. In a letter addressed to the Principal District & Sessions Judge of the Patiala House Court, the Honorary Secretary of the Association, ON Sharma, emphasized the significance of the event and the potential impact on advocates’ ability to attend court proceedings.

The request from the Bar Association highlights the challenge posed by the upcoming “Praan Pratishtha of Bhagwan Shri Ram in Ayodhya” and anticipates the difficulty faced by advocates in appearing in court on January 22, 2024. The temple inauguration, which is set to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to draw a considerable number of dignitaries and over 8,000 guests. The Bar Association is concerned that the monumental event may hinder the normal functioning of the legal proceedings on that particular day.

The letter underscores the need for understanding from judicial officers, urging them to refrain from passing adverse orders due to non-appearance. The Bar Association argues that the exceptional circumstances surrounding the consecration ceremony merit special consideration. They emphasize the religious and cultural significance of the event, suggesting that the absence of advocates and litigants on this day should not be met with punitive measures.

In making this request, the New Delhi Bar Association seeks to ensure that the legal fraternity is granted the flexibility to participate in the historic occasion without facing repercussions in the courtroom. The appeal underscores the delicate balance between professional commitments and cultural observances, emphasizing the importance of a cooperative approach from the judiciary during such significant events.
