Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma v. Manish Sisodia
A defamation suit was filed against Deputy CM Manish Sisodia after he had made an allegations against Sarma in a press conference which was held last month.
The allegations raised was that Sisodia was found to be acted as corrupt in the part of State’s Health Department while it basically was about procuring PPE kits during COVID-19.
On June 4, in a press conference, Sisodia alleged that Sarma as an Health Minister then had been corrupted and performed malpractice when issuing tenders for procurement of PPE kits during COVID-19. He also stated that Sarma had given a contract to his own wife’s company valuing more than the actual price.
The complaint was filed against Sisodia u/s 499, 500 & 501 IPC before Kamrup (Rural) Chief Judicial Magistrate.
In an investigation reports submitted by the digital news portal The Wire, clarifies that the CM didn’t follow proper procedure and it benefitted him thereof.
Though wife of Sarma didn’t commit any wrong, Sarma in his official capacity by mal intention had acted in a corrupt manner.
The Senior Advocate Devajit Saikia will be representing the petitioner and the case will be heard thereof.
