Cow Is A Part Of Indian Culture, Should Be Considered As A National Animal: Allahabad HC.

The Allahabad High Court said on Wednesday that the cow is an integral part of Indian culture and should be considered a national animal, while rejecting bail to one Javed, who was charged with violating the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act (Javed v. State of Uttar Pradesh).

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a single judge, stated the government should introduce a bill in Parliament giving cows fundamental rights and declaring cows the national animal, and tough rules should be enacted to penalise anyone who talk about injuring cows.

“The task of cow protection is not solely the responsibility of one religious sect; cow is India’s culture, and the work of protecting the culture is the responsibility of every citizen living in the country, regardless of religion,” the Court stated.

The judge also suggested that the cow be declared the national animal and that stringent regulations be enacted against anyone who talks about destroying the cow.

Sections 3, 5, and 8 of the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act were used to charge Javed.

The Court took a dim view of how gau shalas operate across the state, adding that it is “extremely unfortunate to observe that individuals who talk about cow protection and development become cow eaters.”
