August 31, 2021 marked as one of the historic day for Indian Judiciary and Democracy as it is the first time since the independence, the Apex court of India will be having Four Women Judges out of nine new Judges who will be administering oath of offices as Judges of Supreme Court.
Earlier in 2018, the Supreme Court of India touched a millstone amongst all major democratic countries by appointing three women justice: Justice R Banumathi , Justice Indu Malhotra , and Justice Indira Banerjee who served from 2018 till 2020 simultaneously.
Although, there are 4 women justices who are being alleviated to the Supreme Court Bench, there will be only 3 women judges who will be administering oath on August 31, 2021 as one of these 4 judges is Justice Indira Banerjee who is being serving as SC Judge since 2018. However, J. Indira will be soon be retiring next year.
Thus, the three new women judges who will be elevated to the SC bench for the first time are Justice Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna and Bela Trivedi.
Further, it will again be a historic moment for India next year in 2022 November when Justice Nagrathna will go on to become First Women Chief Justice of India and will assume the post till 2027.
